1913: Raja Harishchandra was

1914: Raja Harishchandra was the first Indian film shown in
London and became the first Indian film to
be shown abroad.
1920: Baburao Painter was the first man to advertise his film “Vatsala Haran” through cinema posters.
1931: The first Indian talking film
“Alam Ara” released by Ardeshir Irani.
1931: The first song in Indian cinema “De de Khuda ke Naam
par” was recorded for film Alam Ara.
1932: The film “Indra Sabha” released with a record of 71
songs, highest in Indian cinema till now.
1933: The first air-conditioned theatre of India, Regal Cinema started
in Bombay.
1936: “Sant Tukaram” became the first Indian film to be screened at
an International film festival at the Venice Film Festival.
1937: First colour film “Kisan Kanya” won Grand Prize at
the first Cannes Film Festival and became the first Indian film to get an
International award.
1950: “Hanste Aansu” was the first Hindi film released with
an ‘A’ certificate.
1951: The Central Board of Film Censors was formed.
1952: The Filmfare awards were introduced.
1954: The National Film Awards were introduced.
1983: Bhanu Athaiya becomes first Indian to win an Oscar in Costume Design for the film “Gandhi”.
